What is Diet Root Beer?

Diet root beer is a carbonated soda drink with a dark brown color and a flavor that is sweet and tastes like vanilla, caramel and licorice. Originally root beer was made with an herb called sassafras. Today this herb is no longer used and various artificial and natural flavorings are used to recreate the flavor of the sweet and earthy beverage. Diet root beer often contains artificial sweeteners to create a low calorie and/or low sugar product.

Carbonated water is water that has had carbon dioxide gas added to it under pressure and then dissolved. This creates the effervescent, or fizzy effect found in sodas. Carbonated water is flavorless, unless flavor is added. It is a refreshing beverage best served cold.

additives

additives

Additives are added to food items in small quantities to improve the flavor, change the texture, enhance appearance, or preserve the item. Additives are both natural and artificial. Natural additives have been used for a long time, while many artificial ones were discovered in the 19th century. There are numerous artificial additives including soy lecithin, guar gum, ascorbic acid and sodium nitrite.

aspartame

aspartame

Aspartame is a lab made artificial sweetener and used as a sugar replacement because it contains no sucrose. It is white, has no smell and looks similar to sugar with its tiny, white, sand-sized granules. Unlike other artificial sweeteners, aspartame does not have the common bitter or metallic aftertaste. You can use less of this product as it creates the effect of intensifying sweetness.
